Kids Photo Shoot- Ojai, CA

I normally use this space for only client's photo shoots, but I figured you wouldn't mind seeing a photo shoot my kids indulged me in back in November. We were on vacation in Ojai, California, and I try to do 3 shoots each year of my kids. Each one around the birthday of a child. This time Gunnar was turning 10. Enjoy!

Besser Family Shoot- Rustic Canyon

Gunnar has been friends with Jordan since kindergarten, and each year they are more and more inseparable. I love this family and their kids. So I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph some updated family and kids pictures for them. We headed to Rustic Canyon Park in Santa Monica. It was my first time photographing there in years. One year we had our own photos taken there, but I've never taken clients. I think that's about to change. The scenery and the lighting, and the foliage. Just perfect. These kids were great and it was done in no time.

These two were just a joy to photograph. This big sister sure loves her brother, and she can get him to smile and laugh better than anyone. We started off in their home and then moved to a park. I just love all the bits and pieces that new babies have. The rolls, the toes, the dimple.

Newborn Elizabeth

One of the most sacred things about photographing families is documenting the changes in their lives. I have had the privilege of watching this family grow through the years, and a few weeks ago I received a call that they welcomed a little girl into the world. And I was lucky enough to come meet her and watch this family for a morning. Jonathan is such a sweet boy, and oh does he love trucks. If I could have had a photo taken of me taking a photo you would see my iphone on the bed set to sleep sounds of running rivers and rain, I'd be standing on the bed, and Jonathan(big brother) would be with his toy car driving it up my feet and leg. All the while I'm playing games or singing songs with him while photographing his little sister, that is of course until I got him on the bed and captured some sweet moments of a big brother and his little sister. Melt my heart, I tell you. I sure do love taking pictures of kids. Photo shoots like this are why I do what I do.

Welcome to the World Dylan

I was thrilled when Stephanie asked me to photograph the birth of her son Dylan. There is no greater privilege than documenting the entry of a beautiful life into the hands of his mother and father. And to be able to do that alongside loving family members, is a special gift. The night these two parents met their son was a rollercoaster of emotions for them and after an unexpected c-section they finally got to hold him in their arms for the first time. No matter how you expect your child’s birth to happen or what you plan for, sometimes they have plans all of their own. These two completely handed over their plans for what Dylan had in mind, and before they knew it they were introducing themselves as mom and dad to their son for the first time.

I have been such a bad auntie by not posting Romeo's newborn photos, but you can see them in the Newborn category on this site. But here is a little mini shoot we did. My sister found this newboy cap and we had to quickly take some photos before he grows out of it. And it's the perfect thing to cover up this little boy's bald head. :) You will see a photo at the bottom where he had a full head of hair. That he has no longer. Such a cute munchkin either way.

Maternity Studio Shoot - Los Angeles

Stephanie contacted me through my blog after seeing photos of a family I shot last year. In her email she asked for something artsy to document this time in her life, pregnant with her first, a little boy. This shoot was a surprise for her fiance. While I can't post all the photos since some were tasteful nudes, I can post a few highlights that she did approve. We attempted to turn my guest house into a makeshift studio. Everyone who knows me is aware I only use natural light, so keep in mind there were no lights or off camera lighting, no flash. Just use of the lighting we had and as the sun passed outside we adjusted our position and window treatments according. The light outside was just delicious. I love a setting sun and this mama just glowed. Enjoy!

Baby Desmond's Newborn Shoot- Orange County

Oh, I love me some newborns. And I love when my friends and family have the babies since I get to cuddle with them an unusual amount of time. Desmond was a gem to work with and he's already a month and a half old, so these are long overdue! His big sister and brother are champs and love him dearly. Loved this shoot. Love this baby. Love this family.

Jessica & Carl's Maternity Session

We stayed local for my sister's maternity shoot, and whenever possible I love using the old abandoned railroad tracks that are near her house. She's a big fan of black and whites so I went heavy with those and threw in a few color ones just to make me happy. The little bean that was in this belly is now here and I will have a new object for photo shoots. Doesn't everyone do newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 12 month photo shoots with their children?! :) It's always nice to photography people you know and love, and this was one of those special shoots.
